So, I took a small break from blogging to give some space to [wikipop]Mary Daly[/wikipop]. Though she was as Transphobic as they come, I think she did important work for feminist theology AND feminist philosophy. May her spirit endure.
School is underway here at DU. Iliff begins on Wednesday. My classes are all methodological this quarter and fulfill colloquium requirements for Religion & Social Change, as well as Latino/a Studies Certificate. I’m excited about being in these classes, despite how difficult they will be. I have (so far) TONS of reading in my Queer Theory of Color class, which is being offered by the Department of Human Communication. This is my first communication class outside of Preaching 101 and Interpersonal Communication–both classes I took as an undergrad. This class will be stimulating and provocative, for sure! It is also my first Queer Theory class, officially. I’ve read some Queer Theory, but have never taken a formal class on it. AND, this class is oriented toward performativity, so it will for sure be interesting.
In terms of what the site will be up to this winter, I have some plans. I’ve solicited participation from some folks to answer the question “who is G/god and how do we know?” Some entries have already trickled in, and it promises to be an evocative and provocative series. I’ve invited some well respected folks, and taken the recommendation of a friend to include others. I’m excited about this series! Matt Chandler will be participating and contributing, Steve Bezner, Ph.D., J.C. Baker, among others. There will be a nice balance of color, gender, sexuality, and race/ethnicity represented. I initially invited four, white, straight males to answer the question and then was stopped in my tracks saying, “Shit! I can’t have only 4, white, straight, males answer this.” I quickly expanded my net to include people of color with some play to gender and sexuality. The iGod series will be great, and I hope you’ll follow it closely! I’m into all things theological/ethical, and this series WILL be tantalizing.
I’m doing quite well, and the new year is off to a great start. Its not been too terribly cold here in Denver (though it has been pretty frigid in Chicago). I’m excited to see what this year brings and how my research takes shape. Certainly, I’m grateful for my friends I’ve made here in Denver, and the ones who continue to engage me in dialog from afar. An important thing to note, and there is a link in the sidebar, is that I’ve started a wiki at iFronteras.com. I’m collaborating with a fellow colleague on developing a wiki for the US Borderlands. Check it out when you have a chance! It will be a great resource and pedagogical tool for learning about and furthering your understanding of the US Borderlands (and its elements).
I look forward to a great 2010, and when you have a chance, check out the website of my good friend, MPH, Textual Potential!
