Recently I began thinking about my move from academia to creative non-fiction.  The academy, however, after visiting w/ my friend who is moving to teach at Duke, is pulling me back!  Though, when the following few sentences rolled off my fingertips and onto blackberry messenger, I thought…hmm…I do like narrative!  Here they are:

“Friendship is a delicate prose, a narrative sometimes easily constructed. Yet, other times, the narrative is difficult and one is reminded that the delicate faded prose is bound by the faithfulness of the context of the history shared in friendship; I call this memory.”

Friendship is a delicate prose, and sometimes all we have is memory.  Memory, however, is something not easily ascertained when there is not the framework or historical memory.  I’m reminded of Theodor Adorno and his work on memory and music.  Perhaps the PhD is a good route for me, or should I focus on the simplicity of writing?  Its hard to tell!  I do want to celebrate the ritual of writing, I do know that! 

Finding balance and living the questions within the memory will be the difficult part!  Its the surprise and wonder that baffles many of us; however, the surprise is whats keeping us going.

Yes, I’ve been primarily twittering:  micro blogging!  I’ve had other things on me chimp brain!  If you want to read, scan the archives, there’s plenty there, folks!  I’ll be back in full swing shortly!
