Is there such a thing? A Pleasurable absence? Perhaps that is part and parcel of the politics of the journey that is often called life? I’m watching and learning…albeit carefully.
Today I was reading the AN [Anthropology News] and there I saw a picture of Nogales, AZ & Nogales, Mexico. Two worlds meshed together with but a border separating them. I thought to myself:
Is this a pleasurable absence?
The picture was virtually the same–poverty/impoverished folks. What really does the border provide for the people of Nogales? Life? To what end, really?
mas que nunca! I want more than ever for the borders to be fluid, in order for people to move freely. People deserve better! People deserve a pleasurable absence from their poverty. People deserve a chance to hear their voice of laughter and praise rise above their tears of pain and the reality of injustice.
I hope for goodness for Nogales on both sides of the border. Listen and Watch for the Border Watch Folks. They are doing important work along the AZ border. I support their work on behalf of those who are unable to do so.
