exchanging coffee cups

So, my good friend Suzanne and I have a practice of emailing one another pictures of our coffee cups. Commonly, though, mine is my own coffee that I bring from home [a nice blend of Whole Foods beans] and then placed in my Starbucks cup. Today, while we all recovered from our various ailments [mostly caused by red wine], I wanted to share one of my favorite pictures that Suzanne sent my way!

My cuppa joe was had at a north-side mexican joint here in Chicago where I enjoyed fabulous company and beautiful food, and it appears as though their cup was enjoyed at Peets’ coffee–either in Lincoln Park or Evanston?!

Thanks Soozer! I love you and Touka!

I’ve just read another Utne article regarding the film: Juno. This followed my reading of my facebook notes whereby I learned that a colleague-friend of mine is pregnant. My best to Brandee AND the film: Juno!

Because then we’ll be subjected to another torrent of outmoded feminist screeds attacking the movie’s irresponsible glamorization of the choice not to have an abortion.

In a world where culture is “threatened” by the opposing politics of the 1st world, there is another struggle:  cultural history.  Here, Utne magazine posits a critical response to an audience [largely U.S. and "white" Americans] who has NO idea what it means to have a cultural memory or cultural history.

Brazil’s Cultural Defenders

The cultural history of Brazil is in danger. In this video, Elizabeth Dwoskin, author of “Slave Songs in Brazil” from the Mar.-Apr. issue of Utne Reader, talks about the Griô Action program and defenders of Brazil’s traditions.
