i must pick out my theater outfit [the rumor is that i'm wearing sequin to the steppenwolf]! That’s a queering of gender politics!
The RedEye, again, had an interesting article entitled Everyday Racism. In fact, it was on the Front Page. I couldn’t help but find myself intrigued at the question of Everyday Racism but also at the reality that I live in a City [ Chicago] that is stridently segregated.
I am aware that we all have variations of internalized phobias and isms. And, the challenge is to always find a way to process these internalizations and seek to be whole and grounded. But, what does one do when the very framework of a city is one that is rooted in segregation. Certainly, my declaration of this city’s segregation is not a judgment but it is rather a simple recognition of this city’s duplicity and its pragmatic reality of segregation.
And so, as I consider my everyday isms and phobias which are internalized, I am mindful of the ways in which I should continue to work towards braiding together the fringes with the margins. bell hooks primer on feminist theory is a great place to start and end this journey!
perhaps some guitar hero tonight is in order?! but first, i must pick out my outfit [the rumor is that i’m wearing sequin to the steppe …
